The play of the game was a great leaping catch by junior leftfielder, Jaelen Gilkey, to end the DeSmet threat in the 6th inning. The Cadets will finish their regular season schedule today, May 10, at Fort Zumwalt South at 4:15.

CBC Ultimate entered into the Missouri High School Championships at Priory this past weekend, May 4-6.

Looking to make a good showing, CBC came out in the first game and upset Chaminade 13-7. This win pushed CBC in the Quarterfinals.

CBC then had tough losses to DeSmet, Kirkwood, and SLUH to finish out the day. But with the win against Chaminade, CBC booked a trip to the Championship bracket on Sunday.

Sunday, CBC took on Priory and played hard each point earning a lot of respect from the eventual state runner-up.

After losing the game 13-4, CBC learned that they were not going home empty handed. In Ultimate, the most important ideal is not to play the game to win, but play the game with “good spirit.”

CBC showed that throughout the tournament. Each of the 10 teams in the tournament came together and voted on which team played the game “the way it was meant to be played.” CBC for the first time was given the Spirit Award, “for showing resilience and mental toughness in all of the games, and showing a spirit of friendship, sportsmanship, and caring to all competitors not just those who are on their team.” This is the highest honor in Ultimate that a team can receive over the year.

The members of CBC Ultimate should be congratulated on representing their school in such a way this weekend.

Final Scores: Group on Saturday, CBC V Chaminade 13 – 7, CBC V DeSmet 0 – 13 CBC V Kirkwood 5 – 13 CBC V SLUH 2 – 13

Quarterfinals: CBC V Priory 5 – 13

After two difficult losses to SLUH Varsity (15-2) and DeSmet JV (15-4) on Sunday, CBC Ultimate had its most important game of the year yesterday against SLUH JV.

The winner of the game would earn the last spot in the Missouri State Championship Tournament.

CBC was slow from the start and quickly found themselves down 3 – 0. CBC would battle to keep the game close but found themselves still down 10 – 6 late in the second half.

Then senior captain Bryce Reagan took over the game. Leading the Ultimate Cadets with shut down defense and fluid offense, CBC found itself all tied up 13 -13, only two points away from a trip to the state championships.

The Cadets took the lead with a great defensive play and Reagan threw hammer to junior captain Billy Imming. For the last point, the Cadets took advantage of a SLUH turnover and quickly scored with a Imming connection, Billy Imming throwing to sophomore Will Imming to seal the 15-13 win and a trip to the State Championships.

The class of 2012 is definitely going places next year, and although CBC will always have a place in our hearts and minds, here is a list of select seniors who have chosen to give their views of the difficult decisions that were made.

Kenny Zesso:

Where do you plan to go to school next year?

UND (Notre Dame)

What do you plan to study (Major/Minor)?

Double Major: Business (Management or Entrepreneurship) and Mathematics, Emphasis: Pre-Law.

What made you pick that school?

When I stepped on campus, I felt like I was “home”. Notre Dame is an extremely well-balanced university, with a strong emphasis on ALL of the following: Academics, social life, athletics, arts, and more. Great professors who TEACH. In my opinion, ND is the best Catholic university in the nation.

Was this school your top choice?

This school was DEFINITELY my top choice.

What will you miss most about CBC?

I will miss the great sports and arts atmosphere present throughout the brotherly community of CBC High School. I will miss Mr. Myer, Mr. Brockman, Dr. Dohle, and many other faculty/teachers who are not coming to mind presently.

What are your feelings about going to college? (Excited, Nervous…)

I am excited…. (13 more days, 12 days off)!, but somewhat nervous for leaving my friends forever (because my aunt and uncle may move to southern Indiana, near Indianapolis, 3 hours from Notre Dame, I may never see some of my best friends again). Excited, elated, nervous, worried.

Kyle George:

Where do you plan to go to school next year?

Im going to Webster University in Webster, MO.

What do you plan to study (Major/Minor)?

I’ll be studying Instrumental Music Education.

What made you pick that school?

I picked Webster because of their amazing and strong music program. Webster has always been known for their program and I was so excited I made it in at the school and also into the School of Music. Also major decision to go to Webster was that it is close to home and I can still visit family now and then.

Was this school your top choice?

Webster was #2 on the list. My 1st choice I made it into the School of Music there but not into the school itself. But it’s ok because I believe Webster is going to be the better fit.

What will you miss most about CBC?

What I am going to miss most about CBC is the amazing family and community that I have built and met here. I’ve made friends with people that have impacted my life so much. Without the teachers and friends that I have made here high school would have been a drag. I can’t wait to come back and see my friends and to come back and see the amazing staff here at CBC.

What are your feelings about going to college? (Excited, Nervous…)

Just like any senior I am sooo excited to be going away and to be on my own. But also with that I am really nervous about college. Being on my own and nobody I know is going to my school so starting completely over is going to be a challenge, but I’m ready!

Joel Borders:

What do you plan to study (Major/Minor)?

Depauw, Howard, or Furman Political Science and Business Management

What made you pick those schools?

I like the atmosphere of those schools and I feel like I would fit in nicely. Also the quality of education is top tier at all these schools.

What will you miss most about CBC?

I will miss my friends and football.

What are your feelings about going to college? (Excited, Nervous…)

I am excited for college but nervous about being on my own and how hard it will be.

Darrell Satterfield:

Where do you plan to go to school next year?

Saint Louis University for two years then transfer to University of Miami (FL) or UCLA.

What do you plan to study (Major/Minor)?

Major: Biomedical Engineering/ double minor In business & some form of art

Michael Kaelin:

Where do you plan to go to school next year?

Regis University in Denver, Colorado

What do you plan to study (Major/Minor)?

Not sure yet.

What made you pick that school?

My sister went to the University of Denver and lives out there and I was wanting to go D-2 for Baseball so it seemed like a good fit.

Was this school your top choice?

It was one of them, I always wanted to go to Notre Dame or Mizzou but I decided D-2 was best and I wanteda smaller school.

What will you miss most about CBC?

I will miss the brotherhood that we had and all of the guys and teachers that really made an impact on my life.

What are your feeling about going to college? (Excited, Nervous…)

I am excited about senior year coming to an end and summer coming, but I’m a little nervous about leaving because I wish I could be closer to my parents and the people I know.

                By: Alex Ernst

This past Thursday, April 26, CBC had the Honors Convocation for juniors and seniors. This ceremony is mainly for those who have achieved the First Honors on their report cards during the first semester.

In order to achieve the First Honors, a student must have a current GPA of 3.75 or better for that semester.

However, the students who received First Honors were not the only ones the ceremony was about. A number of other awards were given out as well.

First in the ceremony, the new officers of the National Honors Society were introduced and inducted into their leadership roles of President, 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents, Secretary, and Sargent-at-Arms. Respectively, those inducted were juniors Thomas Ignaczak, James Long, Jacob Helt, Taylor Lang, and Connor Murphy.

After the induction, those seniors involved in the Honors Program were recognized for their hard work and continuous participation in the program through their four years here at CBC.

Also, there were a number of awards handed out, including the US Military Academy West Point Appointment from West Point Academy. It was given to Dominic Gatti, a senior who has been accepted at West Point for the following director. This award was presented by Mr. Pat Flachs, a CBC alumnus who went to West Point in the past.

Other awards presented included a number of book awards given for recognition in English, fine arts, history, science, math, language, and business classes.

Finally, those who had received First Honors on their first semester report card were acknowledged. Those who were recognized for achieving this honor included 60 juniors and 54 seniors, impressive numbers to say the least.

When I was a freshman, I came into the school and heard one of the senior of class of 2008 say, “High School goes a lot faster than you can ever think.”

When I was a freshman, I could never believe that these four years would fly by, but now that I am a senior about to graduate and move forward in life, I can see just how fast time can pass.

Looking back on my time at CBC, there are so many different happy memories. One that I can recall the best is when there was a school assembly and Bryce Wandix and I dressed up in Sumo wrestler suits and had a match in front of the whole student body.

“Going to state, and beating DeSmet” said senior Mitchell Johnson.

Christian Vogel said, “One of my best memories has to be this year’s state hockey game. It just felt good to win in our senior year. It really felt like the whole school together at that game.”

With all the memories of our past at CBC, we are all left thinking one thing. What is going to happen next? “Playing football at Missouri Western” said Sean Holloran.

“Mizzou!” said Nate Johns and many other seniors.

There are so many thoughts running through a senior’s head before he leaves that many almost forget we are about to leave this school. “I enjoyed high school, but I ready for it to be over. I have been in high school too long,” said Christopher Scoles.

“I am sad that high school is over but I know my friendships will last forever,” said Sean Holloran.

Christian Vogel said, “I’d say I’m gonna miss my math class with Mr. Pingel the most.

Although we are about to depart and head on to the next chapter of life, we will never forget the brotherhood that we have built here at CBC. This school has done so much more for the students than just giving them an education. This school has one of the strongest communities out of any other school, and has some of the best faculty to help that along. I have lived my four years at CBC with no regrets and this school’s teachings and sense of brotherhood will always be with me.

Who is left? It has been approximately one year since the death of Osama bin Laden the terrorist mastermind behind the deaths of thousands – both American and foreign.

The leadership of terrorist network known as Al Qaeda has been decimated. It is so thoroughly hated in most of the world that Osama bin Laden contemplated changing its identity.

While still operational, the Taliban is at risk for the same thing to happen to it. Many Americans feel that our job in the Mid-East is done; after all we killed Osama bin Laden.

However, there are still snakes in the grass that possess a very potent bite. My fellow Americans, times like these test our resolve. This article will list twelve profiles on terrorists and terrorist leaders still at large. Let us not pack up and run, but instead show determination in finding and capturing or killing these snakes.

1.) Ayman al-Zawahiri: He was a physician and longtime follower and chief officer under Osama bin Laden. He has been named the leader of Al Qaeda following bin Laden’s death. He has also been indicted in the 1998 bombings of the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania.
